Product Competency Tracking Product Quality Monitoring the Quality of an Evolving Product

Quality of product is the responsibility of the entire development team and of all the stakeholders. The project manager is responsible for putting the processes in place to monitor the product's guality as it evolves through its life cycle. The task, "Identify Quality Improvement Needs," may be seen in Figure 1-17 under "Software Quality Management." Because it occurs during multiple development phases, it is one of several "integral tasks."

Chapter 30, "Software Quality Assurance," provides the foundations of guality improvement as they relate to project execution. The following topics will be covered: defining guality, its characteristics, and measures; understanding a brief history of the guality movement—Shewhart, Deming, Juran, and Crosby; understanding important guality concepts—continuous improvement and the Deming control circle plan-do-check-act (PDCA); managing change—being a change agent; implementing software guality; and becoming familiar with software industry issues.

Software Quality Assurance (SQA) will be covered, focusing on: defining software guality, tracking process guality, tracking product guality, understanding assessment processes, and assuring the guality (preparing guality assurance assessment instruments and becoming familiar with the IEEE SQA plan).
