What Is Project Management

Project management is an iterative process that involves four major phases, as shown in Figure 1-1 and described in Table 1-1.

Phase

Description

Scope definition

This is the who, what, where, why, when, and how of a project; the project scope definition phase focuses on the why and what of a project with others at high level. Each scope definition contains specific components and activities. ;3 ^,, ? ¿

Planning

This is how scope will be achieved, with detailed activities and estimates of time (when), cost,and assigned resources(who).

Execution

This distinguishes between project activities (development, testing, etc.) and project management. Emphasize team management and activity tracking and reporting.

Closure

Debrief, review time and cost performance, celebrate, compile lessons learned, and plan for future activities.
