Step Envision personal improvement

Before you can begin to improve and assume a project leader role, you have to decide that there is a need for improvement and then determine the general emphasis of your improvement effort. You therefore build you own self-awareness of the need and your ability to improve. Assessing your relationships within the organization and with your internal customers and your internal suppliers provides a fundamental understanding of where you are now. From this assessment, you can develop your expectations for your own behavior, and you can begin by creating a personal vision for your improvement. In other words, how do you see yourself improving, and what is your own personal vision for yourself?

This concept of envisioning your personal improvement and learning has been described by Peter Senge in The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization (Doubleday 1990). Senge says that if we have a clear vision of what state we want to reach and a clear picture of reality, e.g., where we are, we manage the resultant creative tension and work with the forces of change to get there.
