Serve the team

How do I contribute to gaining consensus in the team, and what is my role in moving the group from its orientation and dissatisfaction stages into resolution and production? This criterion has to do with whether one is a team player or an individual performer. Getting to this issue in a self-assessment involves understanding the cultural and social underpinnings of American workers and professionals. We have not been trained to work in teams; rather, we have been trained to do our own "thing" and pass it on, to hand off "my work" to the next work station. Part of the philosophy of project quality management has to do with the ability to rise above this attitude and enter into a full commitment to working every customer's agenda as we work our own. This means that in the analysis of opportunities, one is willing to contribute to the brainstorming process and educate the team. This means that in the development of corrective action and project development, one is willing to work within the context of meeting customers' needs down the line, not "handing off" the work or leaving it on the stump for someone else to pick up.
