Risks in Organizational and Technical Interfaces

There is major risk in the human interactions that occur in a product development process. The structure and membership of the program teams must be clearly defined and documented to identify individual and team responsibilities, task assignments, and technical competencies. Project management must ensure timely and complete transmittal of information among team elements, as well as to and from outside functional organizations supporting the team. Handoffs from functional experts to each other and to the project manager must be performed effectively. Program managers, department managers, and system engineers review documented information, and remedial action is taken to correct any data discrepancies as well as any deficiencies in design.
