Site Nomination Assessment

In the site nomination assessment process, potential sites or opportunities for setting of sludge management facilities are solicited from other agencies, citizen groups, and institutions.

In an effort to obtain local site nominations, New York City DEP developed a list of representatives from city agencies who have an interest in, jurisdiction over, or knowledge of appropriate properties for siting sludge management facilities. DEP initiated an invitation requesting their involvement in the city's sludge management site selection process. It provided all representatives with the list of seventy-three sites under consideration throughout the city. This list was the outcome of the earlier local assessment process. Fourteen agencies were contacted including NYC Department of General Services, NYC Department of Ports and Trade, New York Telephone Co., Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and others.

Environmental Conservation; NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets,-NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation,- and others. The conference was followed by a written questionnaire addressed to these agencies and their local branches. The suggestions offered in response to the questionnaires, along with comments recorded during the conference and follow-up discussions, were researched to the extent necessary in order to determine the potential for use of areas suggested by the results of the remote site assessment process.
