Integration of external factors

Very often the most critical bottlenecks to full project integration lie outside the project itself. Dependencies on variables that are not under the control of the project manager are a special integration challenge. For instance, project manager in charge of a technical product development process in the avionics business depends on the availability of an aircraft for testing and integration but cannot control when and where the aircraft is available. The business itself controls the aircraft, from the public relations and marketing department, thus aircraft serves several business purposes. External factors such as these often make project success difficult, even if they are within the parent company's capacity to control.
