An individual's self-esteem affects his/her performance of organizational tasks as well as his/her relationship with others on the team. There are actions each team member can do to maintain and build the self-esteem of team members. They are as follows:
■ Establish an environment in which an individual feels his/her self-worth is important to performance.
■ Stay focused on mission; do not make it personal.
■ Treat each person as you want to be treated.
■ Encourage individual contributions.
■ Ensure individual reward and recognition.
■ Motivate, communicate, involve, and develop.
