Implementing over Weekends or Holidays

It is common to implement IT projects over quiet periods, such as weekends or even over holidays, in order to minimize any disruptions. The project manager must suitably plan the go-live period, and he or she cannot assume that it is the duty of the test team to prepare the next step in the implementation. The project manager should complete the following activities:

Create and circulate a primary and secondary contact list of key implementation staff.

? Prearrange access to the facilities and IT systems.

? Establish a conference bridge number over the weekend or holiday. This can be scheduled at certain times or be staffed full-time.

? Consider opening up a status line. Regular voice mail project status can be left for all project stakeholders in order to brief them on the project progress.

? Once the project has been implemented successfully, send out the necessary success notifications.
