Early Warning Signs

The following early warning signs may indicate that a super project is going off track.

1. The corporation is wavering in its commitment to the achievement of benefits. This may be signaled by IS advisors assuming responsibility for the project.

2. Key project staff members have moved on.

3. The supplier makes frequent requests for variations, clarification, or additional funds.

4. The supplier needs redefinition of the deliverables to be supplied.

5. There is a need to involve other parties not previously part of the project or requirements definition.

6. There is a lack of clarity in, or frequent changes to, the organization of the supplier.

7. There is slippage against agreed target dates for delivery of any part of the solution.

8. There is frequent slippage of delivery dates.

9. Project manager gets assurances that "all is well" without supporting evidence.
