During project execution, variances will require planning updates and re-base lining. These variances can include changes to expected activity durations, changes in resource productivity and availability, and unanticipated risks. Such variances may affect the project management plan or project documents and may require detailed analysis and development of appropriate project management responses. The results of the analysis can trigger change requests that, if approved, may modify the project management plan or other project documents and possibly require establishing new baselines. A large portion of the project's budget will be expended in performing the Executing Process Group processes. The Executing Process Group includes the following project management processes (Tables 3-24 through 3-31):

3.5.1 Direct and Manage Project Execution

Direct and Manage Project Execution is the process of performing the work defined in the Project Management Plan to achieve the project's objectives. The deliverables are the outputs from the processes performed as defined in the projcct management plan. Information on the completion status of the deliverables is collected as part of projcct execution and an input to the performance reporting process. This work performance information will also be used as an input to the Monitoring and Controlling process group.
