Supportassurance function

A support/assurance function (saf) is often called a project or programme office. Indeed, naming conventions are merely one area in which there is a huge opportunity for alternatives. Most mature, project-focused organisations have some form of project support and/or assurance function. Its scope, objectives and way of working will be as unique as the project(s) it seeks to support. Many will offer a combination of support and assurance to an audience potentially composed of the most junior and senior extremes of management. The services it offers may be equally diverse, ranging from administrative support to the development and maintenance of an organisation's approach to project management. Where it is placed in the organisation will depend on its brief; it may support one project, a portfolio of projects, or a company-wide programme (which will be described later).
