Education and training

Each person in a project needs to know something of the project's management environment and the wider organisation that nurtures it. If a culture of effective project management is to be encouraged, the language used in managing projects must be clearly understood and commonly applied by all those involved.

Training will help to bring about the desired culture change but, like each of the other components listed here, it will be of little value on its own. At best, training will provide people with the skills and knowledge to do things better or differently. Training may motivate people, but the investment in it will be worth little if the principles and techniques it promoted are not applied in the workplace.
