The final variance analysis takes on many of the same forms and formats as variance reports (Chapter 6), but normally includes a more extensive narrative at the end of the report to capture the environment and the history that led to the variances (regardless of whether they are positive or negative).
The only version of the final variance analysis that takes on a distinctively different look from the standard variance report is the deliverable/activity variance report. In reporting on deliverables or levels of effort, the final variance analysis focuses on the integrated whole of the project, rather than the component parts. Here again, there will be quite a bit more narrative explaining the nature of the differences between the as-built or as-performing condition of the project's deliverables in contrast with the original plan. As-built drawings are sometimes included (often referenced) as a component of the final variance analysis.
